ANN GLUYAS was born in Penance, Gwennap parish, Cornwall late in 1840 to parents WILLIAM GLUYAS (b.1790) a miner, and MARY ANN BARNETT (b.1801). Ann was christened on 28 January 1841 and she was the 10th of the 12 children born to her parents. Her siblings grew up working in the Cornish silver/lead mines until the industry declined in the late 1840's; most then left Cornwall to find work in mining in USA and Australia. Ann Gluyas, following several of her brothers, came to Victoria in 1857 and went to the Ballarat goldfields.
There, Ann met THOMAS BOTTRALL TRELOAR after answering his advertisement for a housekeeper. They married in Ballarat on 15 January 1859 and they had 10 children : 9 girls and 1 boy all born in the Victorian goldfield districts. When her husband was declared insolvent during the economic depression of the early 1880's Ann & Thomas Treloar left Ballarat and came to live in Melbourne.
