Born in Gwennap, Cornwall to parents WILLIAM GLUYAS[1790-1858], a miner, and MARY ANN BARNETT[1800-1869], Bennet was the 11th of their 12 children. By 1861 Bennet was working as a miner at Liskeard, Cornwall. But the Cornwall mining industry went into a severe decline; in 1863 Bennett left his homeland and arrived in Victoria, Australia. He went to the bustling goldmining town of Clunes where he no doubt used his mining experience in the goldmines there.
In 1867 BENNETT GLUYAS married Ireland-born CATHERINE (KATE) KIERNAN and they had 9 children, not all of whom survived.
In 1883 Bennett became the licensee publican of the Albion Hotel in Clunes, then in December 1891 he moved his family interstate to the mining town of Broken Hill in New South Wales where several of his brothers were already living. In mid June 1892 there were notices in the Broken Hill newspaper that Bennett was taking over the running of a boarding house in the town, but he died suddenly within a few days of the announcement, aged 49 years.
