Funeral services for Richard C. Pruss age 83 of Dodge, NE will be on Monday, April 8, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Dodge with Fr. Rodney Lee A. Pruss and Fr. Patrick A. McLaughlin con celebrating the Mass. Interment with Military Honors by Dodge American Legion Post #122 and V.F.W. Post #8597 will be in the St. Wenceslaus Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be on Sunday from 2:30 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the church, with a Public Rosary at 3:00 p.m. and a Wake Service at 7:00 p.m. Minnick Funeral Home in Dodge is in charge of the arrangements.

Richard passed away on Wednesday, April 3, 2013 at the Parkview Home in Dodge, NE.

Richard Charles Pruss was born on February 1, 1930 at Clearwater, NE to Albert and Bessie (Tresnak) Pruss. The family returned to the Dodge area when Richard was a little boy. He attended Dodge Co. Rural School and graduated from Dodge High School in 1947. Following graduation he worked throughout the summer prior to enlisting in the United States Marine Corps on October 9, 1947. He served during the Korean War as a field telephone operator and fought in the battle at the Chosin Reservoir. Richard received the Korean Service Medal and a Good Conduct Medal and was honorably discharged on October 8, 1951 at the rank of a Sergeant.
On January 29, 1952, he was united in marriage to Doris Ann Steffensmeier at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church-Olean. The couple began farming one mile west of Dodge and continued to live on the same farm.
Richard was a member of St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Dodge, Dodge American Legion Post #122 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #8597. He loved his family and he especially lit up when his grandchildren entered the room. Richard loved gardening, fishing, playing cards, and was an avid reader.
