Our loving mother, grandmother, and sister, Verda Peck Hardy, age 103, passed away peacefully May 5, 2019.
Born August 31, 1915, daughter of George Russ and Betsy Lovenia Zundel Peck. She was born at home and had an identical twin sister, Vera, who died shortly after birth. She married Mel Hardy on May 20, 1937, in Salt Lake City, Utah. He preceded her in death.
Mom was an amazing gardener. She would take you on a tour of her garden whether you wanted one or not. She was especially proud of her Iris collection. She was always ready with a shovel to give you a start of something. Mom faithfully cared for our dad for many years as he suffered from a crippling disease. She worked very hard due to our father's poor health, but she never complained. She loved to have fun and be silly. She had a favorite song she sang called "Bread and Gravy". Anyone who knew her heard that song at least once. She loved to go to thrift shops. She was quite a collector of dolls. She knew how to make do with what she had. She loved to visit with her sisters. They would turn up the music and dance. You could never leave her house hungry. Her Grandkids adored her as she was very loving and caring. Mom was amazing spry for a 103-year-old.
Verda is survived by her children: Dorthy Mayberry, Ilene (Lance) Allen, Karin (Bill) Wells, and Lynn (Larry) Moon. Daughter-in-law, Pat Hardy, many grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, and sisters, Betty, LaVon, Nancy and sister-in-law, Beverly. Preceded in death by her husband, Mel; son, Clint; grandsons Ryan and Marty; sons-in-law, Larry, Fred, and Glen; sisters, Dean, Vera, Lucille and Dorothy and brothers, Russell, Grant, and Tom. A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, May 11, 2019, at 10:00 a.m. at the LDS Chapel located at 855 E. Mutton Hollow Road, Kaysville, Utah. A light luncheon will follow. Verda's body has been laid to rest in the Roy City Cemetery, 5250 S. 2300 W., Roy, Utah.
