John F[ranklin?] Graves was the son of Nathaniel Graves and his wife Lucy Cheshire.

He served in the Civil War in NC 18th Reg, Co B, along with his brothers, Sampson who died of wounds at Ox Hill VA, Mordecai who died of disease in Winchester, VA, and Nathan Randall. His other siblings were Lydia Cheshire, Mary Ann Rowan, Simon L and Anthony Fleming.

He lst married Catherine Kinlaw Dec 21, 1859 in Robeson Co. His children were: Carrie G Britt, Elsy O, Zebulon, Atlas E, and Ida Green.

2nd on 18 April 1893 he married Elizabeth Blackburn. Mary Graves Barnes was the daughter of this union.
