Grace Smith, age 79, of 2934 S. 10th St, Manitowoc, died Friday morning, May 2, 1997, at Holy Family Memorial Medical Center, Manitowoc.
Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 6, 1997, at St. Boniface Catholic Church, Manitowoc. Officiating at the Mass of Christian Burial will be Rev. Carl Meulemans O.F.M. with entombment at Calvary Mausoleum, Manitowoc.
The former Grace Shemchak was born March 30, 1918, in Manitowoc, daughter of the late Martin and Michaelena Mrotek Shemchak. She was a graduate of Lincoln High School, graduating with the class of 1935. On April 19, 1941, she married Burtt M. Smith at St. Mary Catholic Church, Manitowoc. The couple celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary in 1996. He preceded her in death on November 8, 1996. Grace was originally employed by David's Beauty Salon and later owned the business until her retirement in 1992. She was an auxiliary member of the Manitowoc Elks Club.
Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Greg and Michele Smith; two granddaughters, Cassandra and Nicole; three sisters-in-law, Helen Morz (sic), Marjorie Petersen, Ruth Shemchak, all of Manitowoc. Also surviving are nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by three brothers, John, Antone and Charlie Shemchak; five sisters, Katharine Sypnafski, Frances Pionek, Helen Mrotek, Josephine Peterson, Irene Wilfer; three infant brothers.
The family will greet relatives and friends at St. Boniface Catholic Church from 9 a.m. Tuesday until the time of service.
The Pfeffer Funeral Home, Manitowoc, is assisting the family with funeral arrangements.
