Born in Burke County, NC on October 23, 1935 to the late Tossie E. Jenkins and Lessie Fullwood Jenkins. Christene was preceded in death by her son Torey Cornelius Sutton and brothers, Charles and Lonnie Jenkins.
Christene graduated from Olive Hill High School then moved to New York to work in housekeeping as a home attendant. She married Oscar W. Sutton Jr. on March 3, 1962 and celebrated 53 years of marriage.
Christene was a wonder fully gifted, loving wife, mother, sister, aunt, and friend. She enjoyed sewing, cooking, crocheting, word search puzzles and overall keeping busy. Mama’s smile was radiant and she always enjoyed a good laugh. When you reflect on all the good times you had with Christene, allow your hear t to remember her contagious laugh and generous heart.
In addition to her husband, Mrs. Sutton is survived by her daughter Lydia Sutton-Woody and her husband Malcolm of York, PA; her son Derrick Sutton of Temecula, CA; brother Harold Jenkins and his wife, Lula of Morganton, NC; sisters Betty Caldwell, Addie Jenkins, Wanda Wilkins all from Morganton, NC; grandchildren Gerard Avery and Christina Louise Woody of York, PA and Khrysta Lee Sutton, of CA and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
