Lonnie was a son of the late Tossie Edward Jenkins and the late Lessie Fullwood Jenkins. In addition to his parents, brother Charles Alexander Jenkins and sister Alice Faye Jenkins preceded him in death.

He had retired from employment with NC School for the Deaf where he worked for 30 years in the Boiler Room. He was highly respected for his work ethic and loved by the students and staff because he always had time for a wave and a smile.

He was a lifetime member of Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon, member of the Men's Choir, Spiritual Choir, Senior Choir, and a former Sunday School Teacher for the Youth. He was a member of the Burke County NAACP, a lifetime member of the National NAACP, and Chairman for the membership drive at Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church for the Burke County NAACP. He was Assistant Boy Scout Master for the Piedmont Council Troop No. 181

He was survived by his wife, a daughter, a brother, four sisters, a sister-in-law, a foster daughter and two foster sons, two grandsons, five aunts, and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, other relatives and friends.
