It has to be said of Mr. Tossie Jenkins that he left the world a better place for his having been here. He was employed by the North Carolina School for the Deaf for 19 1/2 years. He was active in his church, Mount Zion Baptist Church, where he served as a Deacon and a member of the Senior Choir. He was a member of the NAACP, a former member of the Burke County Prayer Band, a former employee of Blue Ridge Community Action, and a member of the Democratic Party.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Alice Faye Jenkins; brothers George, James, and John Jenkins; and by one sister, Mary Lou Wilson.
In addition to his wife, he was survived by three sons, four daughters, a brother, Lewis, and two sisters. He was also survived by 17 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, and 4 great-great grandchildren.
