Daughter of Oliver Hewlett Jones and Louisa Livingston, wife of John Lyon Gardiner, whom she married on November 10, 1870 in New York, NY, and mother of Coralie Livingston (married Alexander Robb Cox), Adele Griswold, Lyon W., John Lyon and Winthrop Gardiner.

Marriage - Elizabeth Jones, aged 19, single, born about 1851 in the City of New York, the daughter of Oliver Hewlett Jones and Louisa Livingston, married John Gardiner, aged 29, single, born about 1841 in East Hampton, NY, the son of Samuel B. Gardiner and Mary G. Thompson, on November 10, 1870 in Manhattan, NY.

Obituary - Gardiner's Island - Mrs. Elizabeth Coralie Gardiner, widow of Colonel John Lyon Gardiner, who was the ninth owner of this island and mother of Lyon Gardiner, the present owner, died at the old manor house here Sunday. Mrs. Gardiner was 63 years old.

Mrs. Gardiner before her marriage was Elizabeth Coralie Livingston-Jones, a descendent of the Jones family of Long Island and of the Livingstons of Colonial New York. After her marriage to Colonel Gardiner, they lived in Paris a great deal, but maintained a town house at Madison Avenue, New York City, as well as the old manor house on Gardiner's Island. Four children, all of whom survive their parents, were born to them. They are Coralie Livingston, the wife of Alexander Cox, an Englishman, who lives on his estate near Sevenoaks, Kent; Adele Griswold Gardiner, Lyon Gardiner, and Winthrop Gardiner.

Gardiner's Island, where Mrs. Gardiner made her home, is located in Gardiner's Bay, near East Hampton. It came into the possession of the Gardiner family in 1640, when Lord Lion Gardiner bartered with the chief of the Manhanketts for possession of the island. The purchase price was less than £5 (about $25), although the island is seven miles long and contains 4,000 acres of woodland.

Mrs. Gardiner was buried on the island.
