Jan and family moved from a rural farm to Detroit Lakes, Minnesota where she graduated from High School. She graduated from St. Luke's School of Nursing in 1957 and upon graduation as an RN she was employed by the University of Minnesota Hospital in Minneapolis. Her 25 year career included assignments at Genesee Hospital, Rochester, NY, Mounds Park and Ramsey County hospitals in St Paul, MN and her last five years in gastroenterology in St Paul.
Jan and Phil (high school sweethearts) were married in December of 1957 and just recently celebrated 59 years of marriage. She and Phil golfed at the Hills until RA made that impossible so she concentrated on her bridge game and was involved in many groups as well as an often used fill-in.
Jan is survived by her husband Phil and their three sons and eleven grandchildren: son Mark and wife Deb (Vadnais Heights, MN) and her two sons Stephen and Erik; daughter Jane (deceased) and husband Matt (Woodbury, MN) their daughters Amber and April; son David (Stillwater, MN) and his daughter Emily and sons Luke, Andrew, Christopher and Bryan; and son Paul and wife Eileen and their son Paul Jr and daughter Katie (Chicago, Il) and great grandchildren Mason and Macy.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Clinton, Lyle, Harold, sisters Eldora, Eileen and Marlys. Her Celebration of Life service will be held at The Lakeway Church on Saturday January 21, at 10:30 a.m.
Donations can be made to Lake Travis Crisis Ministries or to The Lakeway Church Outreach Programs.
