Christell Crawford Allen, 90, of Troy, died Thursday at a local nursing facility. Services will be 3 p.m. Saturday, June 2, at Troy United Methodist Church with burial at Roberts Cemetery in Troy, the Rev. Ron Durham officiating. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Harper-Talasek Funeral Home in Temple.

Christell was born in Troy, Texas, to the late Clarence Andrew Crawford and Ladye James Leeton Crawford. She graduated from Troy High School in 1934 with perfect attendance throughout her entire 11 years of school, and then graduated from Draughan's Business College in Austin. She married Bernard Isaac Allen of Blevins on Dec. 12, 1942. She was secretary to the Bell County Superintendent of Schools for several years. Christell was a devoted homemaker, accomplished seamstress, and outstanding cook. After rearing her children, she served as a secretary for 13 years in the office of the Baylor University Women's Residence Halls, retiring in 1983. She was an honorary lifetime member of P.T.A., having served as President of the Troy P.T.A. for several years. For many years she was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Eddy, teaching Sunday School and Vacation Bible School, and serving in many other capacities. Most recently, she was a member of the Troy United Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Bernard Allen; and brother, Wayne Crawford, of Rogers.

Survivors include son, Larry C. Allen and wife, Beverly, of Carthage; daughter, Candace Vaughan, of Troy; grandson, Jared Allen and wife, Bobi Ann, of Huntsville, Ala.; granddaughters, Jennifer Allen, of Tyler and Chelsea Vaughan, of Troy; great-granddaughter, Kati Ann Allen, of Huntsville, Ala.; brother, Delaine Crawford, of Lubbock; sister, Rena C. Jeffers, of Amarillo; and many other family members and friends.
