Rena Jeffers, 96, passed peacefully from her earthly life into the presence of her Lord on May 18, 2021.
Memorial services will be celebrated on Tuesday, May 25, 2021, at 10 AM, at Polk Street United Methodist Church, 1401 S. Polk Street, Amarillo, Texas. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.
Rena was born on September 20, 1924, to Clarence Andrew Crawford and Ladye James Crawford in Troy, Texas. She lived her childhood and adolescent years in the same home where her father was born on the family farm. She loved life on the farm as a tomboy and Daddy's girl through and through. Horses and dogs made for great companionship on the farm.
She graduated from Troy High School and attended Mary Hardin Baylor in Belton, Texas. She met her husband of 53-years, Franklin Jeffers in 1943. They were engaged prior to him being sent to the pacific theater and they were married on February 16, 1946.
While Franklin was finishing his education at the University of Texas, Rena worked in the General Land Office. She and a friend typed the final version of the Texas Veterans Land Bill, starting at 7:00 PM and finishing at midnight. As a reward, they carried the bill to the Capitol for final reading.
Franklin was re-called to the Air Force during the Korean Conflict but had too many overseas points, so, instead, he was stationed in Amarillo, Texas. Rena joined him in the early fall of 1951.
Rena stayed home and raised kids while Franklin pursued his career in the real estate industry. She was always active in her children's activities beginning with the Paramount Terrace Elementary School PTA, VBS at Polk Street United Methodist Church; never missing a ballgame, recital, rodeo, or horse show.
She loved traveling with Franklin throughout the years he served the Realtor organization; statewide, nationally, and internationally. They had many memorable trips together.
Nana (Rena) dearly loved the special sleepovers with her grandchildren. And until her passing, she looked forward to photos and videos of her great-grandchildren and their activities.
Rena had two additional loves, bridge and the Dallas Cowboys, playing bridge regularly into her 90's. We all knew not to interrupt Rena during a Cowboy game.
Rena and Franklin loved the Lord and the church. They were founding members of the Homebuilders Class at PSUMC and worshipped there until they were no longer physically able.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Franklin, her parents, two brothers, Wayne Crawford and Delaine Crawford, and her sister, Christell Allen.
Rena is survived by her children Randy Jeffers and his wife, Debbie, and daughter, Terri, all of Amarillo; her granddaughter, Jennifer Dawkins and husband, Ken, and their children, Travis Wesley Dawkins and Emmy Kate Dawkins of Dallas, Texas; her grandson, Reagan Crawford Jeffers and wife, Olivia, and their children, Monte Crawford Jeffers and Ford Franklin Jeffers of Austin, Texas. Rena is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to express our sincere gratitude to the residents of Bryan Place, where she lived for forty years, who took special care to watch over Rena in her later life, special caregivers at Bristol Park these past 6 months, and the caregivers with BSA Hospice.
