Raymond Delos Smith.
This beloved man, Raymond Delos Smith, husband, father, Patriarch, passed away peacefully on April 18, 2000 at home, surrounded by his loving family, following a courageous battle with cancer. Born July 19, 1913 in West Jordan, Utah, son of August Otto and Ettie Hannah Palmer Smith. Married Norma Hulse on November 22, 1939 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple; they later divorced. He married Ivy Edna Steadman Andrus on July 19, 1968 in the Logan LDS Temple. Ray was an active member of the LDS Church, having served in many capacities. He served a full time mission to the North Central States as a young man, served with his wife, Ivy, in the London England Mission, member of a Stake Presidency, Patriarch of the Bennion Utah West Stake, and as an Ordinance Worker in the Jordan River Temple for 10 years. He was also a member of the Sons of the Utah Pioneers, where he served as President for a term. His entire career was spent as a builder, including construction of the Jordanelle Reception Center, which he and Ivy ran and took great pride in for many years. Ray's motto was "Just Do It!". His greatest joys came from service - to his family, his friends, and to the Lord. He was a very kind and loving man that will be missed by all those who had the great fortune of knowing him.
Ray is survived by his wife, Ivy; children; Karen Smith ((Ray) Knutson, currently serving a mission in Connecticut, Connie Rae Smith Walton, Gary Ray Smith, Carla Charlene Smith Demke (deceased), Sherry Andrus (Richard) Hooton, Charlene Andrus (James) Christensen, Rhea Andrus (Richard) Turner, Geralee Andrus (Allen) Oyler, Kathleen Andrus (Donald) Olsen; 47 grandchildren; 59 great-grandchildren; one great great-grand-child; brothers, Dean and Earl.
He was preceded in death by his parents; eight brothers; two sisters; first wife, Norma; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Friday, 12 noon, at the Bennion Heights 1st Ward, 6030 South Prairie View Drive (3500 West). Friends may call Thursday, 5 - 8 p.m. at McDougal West Jordan Mortuary, 1861 West 7800 South, and Friday at the church, 11 - 11:45 a.m. Interment, West Jordan City Cemetery.
