Mrs. Grace B (Haggard) (Carner) Johnson, 72, a resident of Wilmington for over 40 years. wife of C. Nye Johnson, died at her home yesterday morning. She had been ill since June. Funeral services will be held tomorrow at 2 p.m. in the Congregational Church. Rev. Robert Barber will officiate and burial will be in Riverview Cemetery. Friends may call at the Covey Funeral Home this evening from 7 to 9. Born in Sanborn, Minn.,. Sept. 29, 1886, she was a daughter of Josiah and C. Adella (Prescott) Haggard. She first married Wayne P. Carner, the ceremony taking place Dec. 30, 1907 in Edmonton, Alberta. In 1920, shortly after moving here, Mr. and Mrs. Carner bought a dairy farm on Ray Hill, in connection with which he operated a milk route. Mr. Carner died in February, 1952. His widow married Mr. Johnson in Durham, N.Y. Apr. 16, 1953. Surviving besides her husband are a son and daughter by her first marriage. Stanley of this town and Mrs. Robert vonSchenk of Durham, N.Y.; four brothers, Walter of Elk Point, Alberta, Warren of Phoenix, Ore., Claude of Medford. Ore., and Darrell of Portland. Ore.; three sisters, Mrs. Richard Beamish of Marathon, N.Y., Mrs. Robert Dodge of Quilcene, Wash., and Mrs. William Woodley of Bremerton, Wash.; four granddaughters and 32 nieces and nephews. Active in church and civic affairs, fraternal organizations and the Red Cross. Mrs. Johnson was a member of the Wilmington Congregational Church and a past president of the Woman's Association of that church; a past matron of Mayflower Chapter, O.E S., and one of the organizers and first president of its past matrons' club, and a member of the Home Demonstration and Mothers' Club. Her activities in behalf of the Red Cross included wartime work and assistance with fund drives and blood drawings.
