AGNES H. STENDER
February 18, 1908-March 23, 1990

Agnes H. Stender was born on February 18, 1908, in Friesland, The Netherlands. She was baptized there and lived in The Netherlands until 1912, when she and her parents immigrated to South Dakota. The family later moved to the Chatfield area. Agnes was confirmed on December 18, 1953, and was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church and the Ladies Aid.

On September 16, 1928, Agnes married Ervin Battey. The Lord blessed their marriage with a son Donald. Mr. Battey died in 1952. Agnes married William Stender on March 14, 1953. He died in 1988. Bull and Agnes built their home on South Grand Street at the edge of Chatfield and resided there until 1984, when they moved into an apartment.

Survivors include a son, Donald Battey of Austin, Texas; a stepson, Louis Battey, of New Richland, Minnesota; a stepdaughter, Patty Chiochics of Mesa, Arizona; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a brother, William Blumers of Chatfield; and a sister, Tina Williams of Windsor, Missouri. She was preceded in death by two brothers.

Agnes H. Blumers Battey Stender passed away on Friday, March 23, 1990, at Chosen Valley Care Center in Chatfield, where she had lived for one week. Prior to that, Mrs. Stender had been a resident of the Whitewater Manor Health Care Center in St. Charles. Funeral services will be held at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Chatfield on Monday, March 26, 1990, with the rev. Clark A. Jaeger officiating. Burial will be in the Chatfield Cemetery.
