Beatrice Mae Brickey Shular, 94, of Sevierville, passed away at her home on Sunday, July 1, 2018.

Beatrice graduated from Townsend High School in 1942 under the guidance of Mrs. Inez Burns.

During World War II, she worked in the offices at Alcoa after putting herself through Business School in Knoxville. She was poised, graceful and carried herself with dignity.

She and her husband, Junior Shular, lived on their homestead in “Tarpin Holler” making it their home for over 70 years.

Beatrice had an affinity for her gardens, flowers, and the land.

She loved her family dearly and was a proud and fierce protector of them all. Beatrice was truly a Southern lady who never uttered a dismissive word about others in all her years. She was strong in spirit and brave. Her passion in life has always been caring for her multi-generational family whether she was in the kitchen cooking delicious family favorites or sharing a kind word of encouragement.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur C. Shular, Jr.; parents, Leigh Isaac Brickey and Belvia Dunn Brickey; son-in-law, writer and comedian, Bill Dana; sisters, Josie, Margie, and Betty; brothers, Charlie, Bobby, and John; and grandsons, Michael Carr and Dustin Shular.

Beatrice is survived by her daughter, Evelyn Shular Dana; sons, Larry Shular, Teddy Shular, Phillip Shular and wife, Ruby Shular; daughters-in-law, Lin Shular and Wilma Kelly; grandchildren, Jill Shular Stansberry and husband, Bryan Stansberry, Tony Shular and wife, Hope Shular, Adam Shular, Lauren Shular, Becky Carr, Lacie Underwood, and Jessica Williams; great-grandchildren, Mikalea Cain and husband, Chase Cain, Braxton Stansberry, T.J. Shular and wife, Shelby Shular, Blaine Carr, Keeley Carr, Chloe, Cameron, Colton, and Kennedy; great-great-granddaughter, Karlee Shular; brother, William Brickey and wife, Alda Brickey; sister, Carrie Williamson; numerous nieces and nephews; and a host of loving extended family members and friends.

The family wishes to publicly express their sincere appreciation and gratitude to Nurse Julie Crum and the wonderful team of Nurses of Covenant Hospice for their professionalism and gentle care of their mother during her health challenges. Our dearest respect and thanks to Mrs. Corlis Williams, master pharmacist and friend to so many; and our gratitude to Nurse Linda Hurst for her care and grace throughout mama's illness.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Covenant Hospice, 3001 Lake brook Blvd., Suite 101, Knoxville, TN 37909.

The family will receive friends from 3pm-6pm Thursday, July 5th with the funeral service to follow at 6:30pm at Atchley’s Smoky Mountain Chapel, 220 Emert Street, Pigeon Forge, TN 37863. Entombment to follow the service
