She was born and raised in Townsend, Tn., the youngest of nine children. Betty attended Townsend High School during which time she met her future husband, Truel (from rival Walland High School). They celebrated 63 years of marriage before his death earlier this year.
Betty expressed her love for family, friends, and even strangers through her love of cooking. Many times she cooked complete meals to take to ailing friends where they were received with appreciation and excitement. Her specialties included her special macaroni and cheese, chicken casserole, her delicious carrot cakes, melt in your mouth coconut cake, and her famous macadamia nut cookies. She loved tending to her various plants and flowers; summer evenings often found her resting on the patio at days end, watching the sun set. Most of all, Betty loved and enjoyed her family, husband Truel, daughters Lara McCaulley and Lisa Whitehead, and son-in-law Dennis Whitehead, and loving grandson Houston Whitehead, and honorary daughters Wanda Boring and Booboo Roberts, and her special companion, grand dog Cheyenne.
She is survived by sisters Beatrice Shuler and Carrie Williamson, and brother Willie Brickey.
She was preceded in death by her parents, father Leigh Brickey, mother Belva Dunn Brickey, siblings Marjorie Burkett, Josie Headrick, Charlie Brickey, John F. Brickey, and Bobbie Brickey.
A graveside service and interment will be at 11:00 am Wednesday October 26, 2016, at Grandview Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Tuesday October 25, 2016, from 6:00 until 7:30 pm in the Trinity Chapel of Smith Funeral and Cremation Service.
