Roberts, Marie Elizabeth nee Peetz
Feb. 1, 1932-Feb. 8, 2018
Age: 86 years 0 months 7 days

Father: Otto Friedrich Peetz
Mother: Edith Anna Bertha Peetz nee Horn
Spouse: Richard Clayton Roberts [Living]
Brother: William Ralph “Bud” Peetz

The soul of our dear sister in Christ, Mrs. Marie Elizabeth Roberts, of Port Huron, was called home to heaven by her Lord just 7 days after her birthday at the venerable age of 86 years 0 months 7 days on Thursday, February 8, 2018.

Marie Elizabeth Peetz, older of two siblings and only daughter of the late Otto and Edith (Horn) Peetz, was born February 1, 1932, on the family homestead in Bismarck Township, Presque Isle County, Michigan.

Shortly after her birth her parents took Marie to St. James Lutheran Church in Moltke Township where she received the Sacrament of Baptism and by the power of the Holy Spirit was made a redeemed child of God. Several years later, at about the age of fourteen, she Confirmed her Baptismal vows at St. James Lutheran Church and received her First Communion. She would remain a devout Lutheran for her entire life.

Marie’s early years included being one of the two youngest members of a 3-generation household. Besides Marie and her younger brother William “Bud”, there were her parents Otto and Edith, and her West Prussian-born grandparents, Rudolph and Auguste (Komm} Peetz. All of Marie's parents, grandparents, and great-grandparents are buried in St. James Lutheran "Church-Yard" in Moltke Township.

For her grade school years, Marie attended a one-room “English” school directly across the road from St. James Church. Although German was both church and home language, English was Marie’s main “speaking” language.

After graduating from one-room school, Marie was enrolled in Rogers City High School (RCHS). She graduated from high school in June of 1949 and shortly thereafter moved “down-below” to St. Clair County and found an apartment in Port Huron which would remain her “home-town” for the rest of her life.

She enrolled in Eastern Michigan Community College and earned her degree graduating in February of 1951.

Marie shared her apartment with a new friend, Joyce Wallace. Marie and Joyce would become the best of friends for life. Joyce was introduced to Marie’s brother, Bud, and Joyce not only was Marie’s best friend, but on May 19, 1956, Joyce also became Marie’s sister-in-law.

On Christmas Eve, December 24, 1955, before a packed St. James Church in Moltke Township, Marie was united in marriage with Mr. Richard C. Roberts of Yale. To the union were born six children, four sons and two daughters.

Marie was a faithful member of Holy Redeemer Lutheran Church in Port Huron Township.

She loved double-deck canasta and espedially enjoyed playing bingo. She was an avid Detroit Tigers fan. Although having been exposed to the local Presque Isle County card game “Spitzer” from childhood, it wasn’t until after retirement in the 1990’s that she, Dick and Bud and Joyce learned to play the game. Next to canasta, it was probably the most enjoyable card game that they played.

She especially enjoyed spending time with her family, attending first her sons’ and then her grandchildren’s and even great-grandchildren’s sporting events. One of her most favorite get-togethers was the Christmas Day family gatherings at Debbie’s home.

Although through faith in their Lord the family and friends look forward to a heavenly and eternal reunion, the every-day presence and sound advice for now will be deeply and tearfully missed by:
