Martha J. Brown Called by Death
Wife of Cuthbert J. Brown of Near Sullivan Dies Following Long Illness.
The death angel touched the brow of one of the pioneer residents of Sullivan county last night at seven thirty o'clock when Mrs. Martha Jane Brown was called to her reward.
Mrs. Brown, the wife of Cuthbert J. Brown had been confined to her bed for the past five months and had been an invalid for many years. She bore her suffering patiently to the end of life, with death resulting from a complication of diseases.
The aged lady's death occurred at the residence two and one half miles south west of Sullivan. Martha Jane Brown was born in Sullivan county Indiana in 1859. She was united with the Baptist church as a child. She was united in marriage to Cuthbert Brown on August 30, 1860 and to this union seven daughters and three sons were born all of whom survive.
Besides the husband, Cuthbert Brown, Mrs. John D. Clem and Mrs. William Caulk of Terre Haute, Mrs. J. A. Dudley, Mrs. Lula Wessner and Mrs. Stella Wardell, and Mrs. Emit Nesbit of Sullivan and Mrs. Effie Gruver of Rome, Indiana and Clint and Richard Brown of Sullivan and Carl Brown of Iowa City, Iowa mourn the loss of the aged lady.
The funeral services will be held at the Brown residence south west of the city at two o'clock Saturday afternoon and will in charge of the Rev. Fuson of the Fairbanks baptist church. Burial will be made in Center Ridge cemetery.
