Mr. French Hillman, a native of Leakesville, Mississippi and resident of Mobile, Alabama passed away peacefully in his sleep on Tuesday, October 24, 2017 at his home. French was a United States Army Veteran and Civil Servant at the Pentagon, as well as with the Joint Chiefs of Staff, for the United States Federal Government. French was a member of Sweetwater Baptist Church and was active as a coach of all sports when his boys were growing up. French enjoyed gardening all his life, a passion instilled by working alongside his mother in their family garden. No matter where he lived, he always had a garden for his mom. He loved spending time with his family and will be dearly missed by those who knew and loved him. He was preceded in death by his parents, Samuel Jackson “S.J.” and Stella Hillman; siblings, COL. Thurman “Horton” Hillman, Samuel Jefferson “Tete” Hillman, G. Palmetto “Pal” Hicks, James Marlin “Todd” Hillman, Marteil Breland, Rayburn “Tud” Hillman, Jackie D. Hillman and Graham “Tinnie” Hillman. The family will receive friends from 12pm until the 1pm funeral service on Saturday, October 28, 2017 at Freeman Funeral Home in Leakesville, Mississippi, with Rev. Charlie McNeil and Rev. Dennis Cochran officiating. Burial will follow in Sweetwater Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family would ask that memorials be made to Sweetwater Baptist Church.
