He was born in Gaston County the son of John Thomas and Mamie Stroupe Dameron.

Luther was employed by Osage Mills and the Gaston County School Bus Transportation System from which he retired in 1972.

He was a loyal lifelong member of Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church where he served in several different positions over the years of his active membership.

He received recognition from Gaston County Department of Social Services for over ten years of service with Meals on Wheels in the Bessemer City community.

He was nominated by the Bessemer City Area Chamber of Commerce as a candidate for "Citizen of the Year".

He enjoyed gardening, honeybees, wine-making for Grace Lutheran communion for years, and Lenoir Rhyne Football.

Luther served during World War II as a Seabee with the United States Navy and was a member the American Legion Post 243 in Bessemer City.
