Early Life: Jay was born June 13, 1931, in Springville, Utah, to Floyd LaVar and Bertha M. Williams Stewart. From a very young age, Jay was a hard worker. His first job was working in a florist shop for five cents an hour.
Life's Work | Service | Interests: On June 6, 1956, Jay married Barbara Nielsen and enjoyed 34 years of loving marriage. Together, they raised two sons, Scott and Shaun. Barbara passed away from cancer in September 1990. After graduating in Engineering from Utah State University, he went to Omaha, Nebraska, to work for AT&T. There he became a senior engineer. His hobbies include: the stock market, wood carving, oil painting, auto repair, home and appliance repair, fishing and hunting. A sports enthusiast, he played football, basketball, golf, softball, and handball. As a basketball, football and softball coach, he inspired young men for over 25 years. In 1996, Jay married Betty Jean Hansen in the Manti Utah LDS Temple. They had more than 21 awesome years together, and enjoyed traveling, spending time with grandchildren, and serving missions together. He was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. As a high priest, he had many stake and ward assignments. Jay Edwin Stewart passed away Sunday, August 13, 2017, peacefully at his home. He was 86.
Survived By: His wife, Betty; his two sons: Scott (Ann) and Shaun; seven step-children: John, Scott (Suzanne), Marshall (Christina), Jerry, Kristi (Brian), Keri and Jess (Zoreatha); numerous grandchildren; his brother, Howard (Cheryl); brother-in-law, Kay Bills; sister-in-law, Joanne Stewart; half-siblings: Curtis, Jim, Juanita and Christine; and many nieces and nephews.
Services: Spring Creek 6th Ward Chapel
Burial: Evergreen Cemetery
