HAMPSHIRE - Cleo Van Vleet of Hampshire, IL passed away at home on Wednesday, June 28, 2017. She was born in a farmhouse on Ketchum Road on January 11, 1924, the daughter of Ernest and Elta (Tewksbury) Allen. Cleo married Lloyd Van Vleet on January 11, 1940 in Dubuque, IA. Lloyd and Cleo farmed in the Plato and Hampshire area and lived at the end of Terwilliger Street for 71 years. Cleo was known to family and friends as the best chocolate chip cookie maker and for her annual birthday trip down the barn hill on a sled. While not a churchgoer, she was a member of the First United Methodist Church and the Mary Circle. She helped with the church's Outgrown sale for many years and also visited shut-in congregation members. Cleo is survived by her five children, Jan Boll, Judy (Hank) Gehringer, Dick (Vivian) Kenny (Karen), Kathy (Terry) Railing; 19 grandchildren; 44 great grandchildren; and 17 great-great grandchildren; a brother-in-law, Don Holsted; sister-in-law, Mary Allen; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; brothers and sisters, LaVelle, Miles, Cy, Pudge, Garnet, Mitzi, Louis, and Sid; sons-in-law, Don Boll, and Ron Rohlwing; and 3 grandsons by marriage, Paul Bartz, Brian Anderson, and Gary McPherson. Services will be held on Sunday, July 2 at 2pm at the Fredrick Funeral Home, 284 Park Street in Hampshire. Burial will follow in the Doty Cemetery. Visitation will be prior to services at the funeral home from noon to 2pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in her name may be directed to the Cleo Van Vleet Memorial (to benefit mom's favorite charities) in c/o Fredrick FH, PO Box 445, Hampshire, IL 60140 Jack, Dick, Kenny, and Kathy would like to specially thank Judy & Hank, Tia, & Kevin, Paulette and family for the years of love and devotion to Mom's care.
