Greenville resident Donald R. Dykes, 68, died Thursday night at Presbyterian Hospital of Greenville. Services will be at Coker-Mathews Chapel Sunday at 1 p.m. Rev. Jerry Young will officiate.

Burial will be in Forest Park Cemetery.

Born in Megargel on Oct. 6, 1925, he was the son of William N. and Vera West Dykes. He married Jewell Plaxco in Cumby on Oct. 4, 1947. Mr. Dykes was a retiree and veteran of the U.S. Air Force, aircraft mechanic and electrician, retired USAF, member of Fred Ende I.O.O.F. Lodge No 87 and was a Methodist.

He is survived by a son, William Dykes of Greenville; daughter, Donna Smith of Louisville, Ky.; brother, Tom Dykes of Conroe,; three sisters, Faye Purcell of Bangs, Mary Dooley of Cedar Creek and Betty Duncan of Dallas; and four grandchildren. Preceding him in death were his wife on Nov. 6, 1990; father in 1968; mother in 1976; and brother, Bobby Dykes in 1989.

Nephews will serve as pallbearers. Don Denton will serve as honorary pallbearer.
