Thomas lived with his family in Greenville, Texas before moving to Grosvenor, Texas. He finished his last two years of school at Bangs High School. Thomas then served in the Marines from 1950 until 1964, when he was honorably discharged. He moved to Houston with his family and worked for an electronics firm until his retirement in 1986. Thomas married Francis Keeney in Conroe, Montgomery County, Texas on January 30, 1987.

He is preceded in death by parents, William & Vera Dykes; siblings: Dick Dykes, Bobby Dykes, Mary Dooley; His first wife, Geri; sons, William Dykes & Clifton Hiltz.
The family received friends from 5-8PM on Monday, September 19, 2011. Funeral Services were held at 3PM on Tuesday, September 20, 2011 with Bro. Gene Kendrick of Mims Baptist Church of Conroe, officiating. Both services were held at Brookside Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions were requested to be made to The American Cancer Society American Cancer Society American Cancer Society or your charity of choice.
