The cause of death was not available Sunday evening.
He was born July 1, 1925, in Fauquier County and was a son of the late Rufus Homer and Ollie Lee Whitmer Polk.
On April 24, 1948, he married the former Katie Lamb, who survives.
Also surviving are four sons, Roger Whitmer, of Berryville, Charles Whitmer, of Linden, George Whitmer, of Front Royal, and Benjamin Whitmer, at home, five daughters, Patricia Dye of Amissville, June Campbell, of Huntly, Shelby Lake of Hume, Janice Kuser of The Plains and Tina Whitmer, at home, two sisters, Mary Frances Lamb, of Madison, and Joyce Smith of Weyers Cave, four brothers, Thomas and Bruce Polk, both of Woodstock, and Ronnie and Robert Polk, both of Quicksburg, 16 grandchildren and a great grandchild.
The funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. by the Rev. Dewey Fleish,am. Burial will be in Christ United Church of Christ Cemetery.
