George Jake "Animal" Whitmer, 59, of Front Royal, Virginia, passed away Thursday, March 14, 2019 at Warren Memorial Hospital.

A funeral service will be held Tuesday, March 19, 2019 at 2 p.m. at Maddox Funeral Home, 105 West Main Street, Front Royal with Sammy Campbell officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

Mr. Whitmer was born April 27, 1959 in Fauquier County, Virginia to the late Aldon and Elizabeth Lamb Whitmer.

He was also preceded in death by his granddaughter, Valerie Rose; two brothers, Benjamin and Roger Whitmer; and two sisters, Janice Ramey and Shelby Lake.

He drove for Gilliam Lumber Company and volunteered with both Shenandoah Shores Volunteer Fire Department and Linden Volunteer Fire Department.

Survivors include his wife of 41 years, Linda Kay Whitmer of Front Royal; son, James Anthony Whitmer (Kasey Hicks) of Front Royal; three sisters, Patricia Dye of Culpeper, Virginia, June Campbell of Chester Gap, Virginia and Tina Smith of Louisa, Virginia; brother, Charles Whitmer of Roanoke, Virginia; three grandchildren, Hailey Whitmer, Nolan Whitmer and Hunter Hicks, all of Front Royal; and mother-in-law, Ruth Stillwell of Front Royal.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Maddox Funeral Home, 105 West Main Street, Front Royal.
