Mrs. Koon died Thursday, August 1, 2002 after an illness. Born in Darlington County, she was a daughter of the late Vernon Pressley and Wilma Rhodes Sims. She was first married to the late Jesse Walter Koon and then to the late James Edward Koon. She was a homemaker and a retired nursing assistant of Morrell Convalescent Center. She was a member of First Free Will Baptist Church and of the Adult Women's Sunday School Class.
Surviving are daughters, Maree K. Smith of Wilmington, N.C., Carol K. (Gene) Hewitt of Florence, Phebe K. (Hugh) Holcombe of Darlington and Lynn Koon of Greenville; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; sisters, Vera Strickland and Lillian Williams, both of Darlington; brothers, Edward Sims of Hartsville, Fred Sims of Norfolk, Va., W.J. Sims and James Sims, both of Darlington. She was preceded in death by sisters, Nell Young, Sarah Poe, Mary Bailey and Macie Witherspoon.
