Freda D. Blue, 82, of Bozeman passed away Tuesday, Nov. 11, 2003 at Mountain View Care Center. She was born on Feb. 27, 1921, in Huston, Idaho, to W. Josiah and Mary Rowberry Burke.

Freda was the eighth of nine children and was raised and educated throughout Idaho and Montana. She graduated from high school in Charlo in 1940.

She married Felix Hamel on Oct. 12, 1940, in Charlo. To this union were born two daughters, Ila Doyne and Margery. The couple later divorced.

Freda gained employment at F.W. Woolworth Company in Billings, where she met and later married Wilbur L. Blue. They were married on Aug. 30, 1947, in Denver, Colo., where Wilbur was a student at Denver University. Wilbur adopted Doyne and Margery. Kenneth was later born to Freda and Wilbur.

For many years the family made their home and livelihood in Billings. Wilbur passed away on Jan. 25, 1970. Freda remained in Billings until 1974, at which time she seized an employment opportunity in Bridger.

For many years, she managed the Maverik County Store in Bridger. Upon her retirement in 1986 she moved to Bozeman to be closer to family.

In 1993 she suffered a major stroke, which would define the physical challenges she would face for the remainder of her life.

Freda was an active member of the Latter-day Saints faith and found great satisfaction in doing genealogy and frequently visiting a variety of L.D.S. temples, where she participated in many activities.

By far the greatest joy in this life was her family, and in particular her grand- and great-grandchildren. There was never a doubt of her unconditional love and devotion to them.

Freda is survived by her daughter; son-in-law; son; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; sister, Emma Hawkins of Billings; brother, Alma Burke of Bend, Ore.; sister-in-law, Kathleen Burke of Chasmere, Wash.; and many nieces and nephews [names omitted].

Freda was preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughter, Ila Doyne; and her brothers and sisters: Ida Nelson, Lowell Burke, Sarah Bethune, Bill Burke, May Hamel and Rhea Hamel.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 14, at the L.D.S. Chapel, 2915 Coulter Ave., Bozeman.

A graveside service and interment will take place at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 15, at Sunset Memorial Gardens, 1721 Central Ave., Billings. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the L.D.S. missionary fund c/o Bishop Dwayne Heap, 9090 S. 19th, Bozeman 59718.--Bozeman Daily Chronicle, Nov. 12, 2003
