Ida was educated in Toole, Utah. She moved with her family to Bynum in the 1920s. She married Gustave Nelson Sept. 13, 1930, in Shelby, MT, and the couple moved to a farm north of Agawam. They moved to the Choteau area in 1943. After her husband's death she moved to Great Falls and worked at various restaurants until retiring in 1975.

Survivors include a son, Eugene of Choteau; daughter, Eleanor Chevalier of Great Falls; two brothers, Al Burke of Colville, WA, and Bill Burke of Wenatchee, WA; four sisters, Freda Blue of Bozeman, Emma Hawkins of Billings and Rhea Hamel of Anaconda, and Sarah Rowley of Choteau; 15 grandchildren; and nine great grandchildren.
