Ethel J. Barnes

Ethel J. Barnes of Rock Hill and formerly of Middletown, NY, retired owner and operator of Barnes General Store on Yankee Lake, entered into rest on Thursday, May 14, 2009 at the Orange Regional Medical Center Horton Campus in Middletown. She was 86.

The daughter of the late Daisy and Herman Heater, she was born on January 24, 1923 in Matamoras, PA. She was predeceased by her loving husband Samuel Barnes on December 19, 1996.

Her survivors include two sons; Ronald Barnes and wife Linda of Folkston, GA and Samuel F.L. Barnes of Titusville, FL, two daughters; Linda and husband Richard Zgrodek of Otisville, and Dolores and husband Denis Sheeley Sr. of Rock Hill, two sisters; Helen Garrity of Port Jervis and Dorothy Ponticello of the state of Florida, 10 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

In addition to her husband Samuel, she was predeceased by sisters Gertrude Sigler and Florence Garrity, and brother Frank Birtch.

The family wishes to extend a special thank you to their loving niece, Dolores Vavricka, for her love and support throughout the years.

Friends may call at the Cornelius, Dodd and Connell Funeral Home, 26 Grove t., Middletown, NY on Monday, May 18, 2009 from 4-7 P.M.

A Memorial Service will be held at 7:00 P.M. immediately following the visitation . The Reverend Roy Schaffer of Rock Hill will officiate.

Interment will take place in the Pine Hill Cemetery, Town of Wawayanda at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Rock Hill Ambulance Corp, P.O. Box 4, Rock Hill, NY 12775, or Otisville Fire Dept., 66 Highland Avenue, Otisville, NY 10963, or the Mt. Hope Historical Society, P.O. Box 574, Otisville, NY 10963.
