He married (1) Lucinda Betty Hicks (1816-58), and their six children were Daniel A. (1842-61)(CSA), Harriet (c1843-1850:60), Martha Lavinia (1850-1912), Elizabeth (1853-97), Robert R. (1856-), and Samuel D. DuVal (1857-1921). John Russell DuVal married (2) Mary Elizabeth Swift (1838-1904), and their four children were Ida P. (c1862-), William P. (c1866-), Anna May (1871-1911), and Edna Effie DuVal (1875-1937).
