T. M. Talley
Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon, July 31, for Mr. Tom Talley who died at his home at 52 Reed Street, Lanett, Saturday afternoon after a long illness. Uncle Tom had been a patient sufferer for years and had been confined to his bed for almost two years.
Uncle Tom was born in Chambers County November 6, 1873. He went to Lanett with his family in 1910. He was employed in Lanett Mill for a number of years. He transferred to Lanett Bleachery and Dye Works a number of years ago because of his health. He was admired by all that worked with him because of his determination to carry on in spite of his intense suffering. He was always cheerful and loved people. He had a kind word for everyone he saw. He was a member of Lanett Methodist Church which he loved and supported with prayers and his means as long as he was able to work. While his passing leaves a vacant place in our midst and a lasting sorrow in our hearts his cheerfulness, his honesty, and love for the right will ever be a monument to his noble life.

In passing he leaves his faithful companion, who tried so hard to heed his every call for many years of his suffering and his seven children; Mrs. Annie Brown, Mrs. Mary New man- Mrs. Louise Thomas, Lanett, Charlie, Frank and Walter of Columbus and Phenix City, Mrs. Clyde Pace of Mobile. Thirty one grandchildren and twenty-five great grand children. One brother and a host of. relatives and friends who are grieved because of his going. Honest men like Uncle Tom have made the country what it is. Even though he is gone from our sight he leaves before us the beautiful examples of honesty, truthfulness, kindness, patience, and helpfulness.
The funeral, was held from the Methodist Church at 4 o'clock P.M. Sunday with the Rev. J. F. T. Brown, Baptist Church and Mr. Van B. Taunton officiating.
Interment was in Lanett Cemetery with Johnson and Blakely directing.
