Orval C. Floyd, 100, of Springfield died Monday, November 8, 2010 at River Birch Senior Living Center. Mr. Floyd was born in Wayne County Illinois on January 22, 1910 to George Henry and Violet Lillian Orr Floyd.
He graduated from Mt. Erie (a three year high school) and then Fairfield High School in 1928. He started attending the University of Illinois the next year and graduated with a BS in 1938 and a MS in 1950. He taught in one room schools in Wayne County, while attending the U of I. Following graduation, he began teaching agriculture in Amo, and Clayton, IN. From 1943 until 1957, he taught agriculture in Mt. Carmel, IL and became a VoAg Supervisor with the Superintendent of Public Instruction until his retirement in 1972. He then started Illinois Realty where he was owner-broker until retiring in 1977.
Mr. Floyd was a lifetime educator, American Farmer, on the President's Council for Agriculture, President Vocational Agriculture Teachers Association, President of the Illinois Retired Teachers Association, a charter member of Future Farmers of America, FFA Advisor, life member of the Mason's, member of the Lions and Kiwanis Clubs, taught classes in Victory Garden's and adult classes in canning during World War II. He was a 46 year member at Douglas Avenue Methodist Church and the Come Doubles Sunday School Class.
Orval married his high school sweet heart, Juanita Elizabeth Price in 1937; she preceded him in death in 1996. In 2001 he married Stella Cline who also preceded him in death.
Mr. Floyd is survived by a son and a daughter, three grandsons, brother, John Floyd; sister, Neva Delean Richards; sister-in-law and several nieces and nephews. His brothers Opel, Herman and Mark and sister Juanita Jacobs preceded him in death.
