A Celebration of Life will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, August 8, 2016, at New Hope Christian Church in Marshalltown, Iowa. The family will greet guest from 9:30 until service time. Carl David Schwarck was born June 14, 1930 on the family farm in Grundy County to Alonzo and Ada (Smith) Schwarck. He was the ninth of eleven children. He attended Whitten School where he graduated. Carl entered the U.S. Navy in December of 1950, and honorably discharged October 1954 at the end of the Korean conflict. Carl and Joan Newell were united in marriage on June 25, 1952, in Oakdale, Iowa. From this union six children were born. After service he attended cosmetology school in Waterloo and had a beauty shop on Falls Avenue in Waterloo, Iowa and also worked at John Deere. They moved to Eldora 2 years with a beauty shop while working at Lennox. In August of 1966, they made their home at 2206 West Main with a beauty shop while continued working at Lennox.
He was a member of Hillside Church of Christ where he served as a deacon, an elder, and a Sunday school teacher and was a charter member of New Hope Christian Church. During this time he had many gatherings at his home for the whole congregation and youth groups. Carl also planned many Schwarck family gatherings. Carl retired at 709 Arlington Drive where he and his brother, Paul, had many yard sales with the barn board birdhouses they made during the winter. In 2010, they made the move to the Village Cooperative of Marshalltown.
He was preceded in death by his parents; grandparents; sisters, Lucille (Carl) Strauss, Margaret (George) White; sisters-in-law, Abby and Mona Schwarck; brothers, Richard Wolford, Mike "Milo" (Lorraine), Dale (Betty) (Marjorie), Donald, Glen, and Maurice Schwarck; son-in-law, Rick Morris; grandson, Chase Losey; and in-laws, Fern and Maynard Newell.
Carl is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Joan; brothers, Victor Schwarck, Paul (Catherine) Schwarck; sisters-in-law, Norma Schwarck, Phyllis Schwarck, Evelyn Schwarck, Betty Schwarck, and Inez Wolford; children: Jeff (Lynn) Schwarck, Grinnell, IA; El Jean (Steve) Bryant, Buford, GA; Joel (Teri) Schwarck, Bellevue, NE; Jodee (Terry) Russell, Salina, KS; Karen (Gary) Gruver, Conrad, IA; and Konnie Losey (Kevin McLain) Plano, TX; grandchildren: Kimberly (Randy) Dixon, Krystal (Greg) Davidson, Ben (Cari) Schwarck, Jeremy (Becky) Schwarck, Chad (Kristin) Weber, Jenni (Eric) Bryant, James (Fae) Weber, Alycia (Jared) Wazny, Melinda (Andrew) Swanson, Veronica Bryant (Hunter Shugart), Jacob, Joelle (Mark Valencia) and Jarod Schwarck, Cory (Ashley) Russell, Casey (Sara) Russell, Jaclyn (Travis) Kramer, Laura Morris (Andrew Moritz) and Krista Morris, Casey (Ashley) Gruver, Ashley Gruver, Brittany (Conner) Woodruff, Rachael (Brandon) Johnson, Renee (Charles) Valdes, 44 great grandchildren, and 3 great-great grandchildren.
