Dale M. Schwarck Sr., 89, of Eldora, Iowa died following a sudden illness on Tuesday, December 11, 2012 at Ellsworth Municipal Hospital in Iowa Falls, Iowa. Funeral services will be at 10:30 am on Friday, December 14, 2012 at the Honey Creek New Providence Friends Church in New Providence, Iowa with Pastor Justin Weber officiating. Burial will follow lunch at the church, at 1:00 pm at Eastlawn Memory Gardens in Eldora. Visitation is from 4 pm to 7 pm on Thursday, December 13, at Creps-Abels Funeral Home in Eldora.
Dale was born on October 29, 1923 to Alonzo and Ada (Smith) Schwarck in Melrose Township, Grundy County, Iowa. One of eleven children growing up on a farm near Whitten, Iowa, he enjoyed playing and working together with his brothers and sisters during some tough times. There was always plenty of love in the close-knit family with extended family getting together often. He enjoyed many sports, playing baseball in high school and watching sports his children and grandchildren played, and then on TV in his later years.
As a young man, he met a school teacher, Betty Lou Ehlert and they were united in marriage on August 30, 1948. To this union were born children, Rae Jean, Claudia, Gaylene, and Dale Jr. (Marty). They lived on various farms throughout Hardin County as Dale engaged in his life work of farming. He joined St. Paul Lutheran Church in Eldora. Betty departed this life on September 27, 1986. Dale and Betty lived their faith and instilled love and charity in all their children and family. Dale was married to Marjorie Sayer on December 26, 1987. He welcomed Marjorie's family into his heart. He transferred his church membership and joined the Honey Creek-Friends Church in New Providence.
Throughout his life, Dale enjoyed family gatherings including reunions, weddings, and graduations. And of course, you could usually find Dale among those playing a game of "pepper" or "500". Anyone who played cards with him knew how he loved to win. He kept track of everyone's hand, and everyone knew what his reaction would be if the right cards weren't played and he lost. When he moved to Ashbrook in Iowa Falls and to the Eldora Nursing and Rehab Center, he still loved to play bingo and cards. Fishing trips to Canada with family and good friends were also special to him. Dale gardened, growing vegetables and flowers. He loved to share the produce raised and to show off his flowers through pictures or as gifts. Feeding the birds, deer and wild turkeys allowed him to connect with nature and to watch their activities from the back yard near New Providence. Often he could be seen with family at his favorite restaurant, Pizza Ranch. And, always the farmer at heart, he was ready for a ride around the countryside to see what the crops were looking like. A stop at a field to get an ear of corn, or a bean stalk to see how many pods were on it, was a tour highlight.
