Florencio Arenas was born October 27, 1904 in Villa de Cos, Mexico, the son of Jose Arenas and Julia Solis. He married Isabel Asevedo, and had lived in Sparks since 1924.

Before his retirement, he had worked for the Southern Pacific Railroad for 45 years. He was a member of the Brotherhood of Maintenance of Way, and Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.

Preceding him in death were his wife, Isabel, in July of 1997, and an infant son, Jose, in 1934. Survivors included five daughters, Margaret Wilson, Madalena Dunn, Julia Kleist, Stella Gonzales, and Marie McKnight; two sons, Jose R. and Ricardo; 21 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
