Marshall Benjamin Jennings was the son of Thomas J. "Tommy" Jennings and Delilah Davis of Harris County, Georgia. He was brother to Jonas T. Jennings and Bishop C. Jennings.

Marshall married Eliza Jane Smith about 1866. They had 12 children (including a set of twins) while living in Harris County. In or about 1890 they moved to Chambers County Alabama, and were living in the neighborhood of Bethlehem* in 1900.

*Part of the town of River View, which was incorporated into the city of Valley in 1980.
