William Ben Cook, Veteran City Employee, Dies at 61

William Ben Cook, 61, a long-time City of Dallas water department employee, died Sunday morning at his home, 4212 Fernwood, following a long illness.

Cook, a foreman, was known to most water department employees as "Uncle Ben". He retired last March 28. He was a deacon in the Southern Crest Baptist Church and was active in the brotherhood there for many years.

Surviving besides his wife are three sons, Tommy Cook, Cranford Cook and Walter Cook, all of Dallas; two sisters, Mrs. Waitsel Clakley of Jacksonville and Mrs. Naomi Briley [Bailey] of Artesia, N.M.; and six grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday in the Southern Crest Baptist Church, 2327 Locust Avenue, with the Rev. Earl W. Goss, the Rev. R. W. McGinnis, and the Rev. Forrest McLeroy officiating. Burial will be in Noonday Cemetery near Tyler.

Pallbearers will be M. S. Freeman, Cecil Randolph, Barney Herring, K. C. McKee, Bob Caldwell and H. A. Rodgers.
