An RCAF Mitchell Mk. II HD341 bomber from No. 1 Air Armament School, located at RCAF Station Trenton in Ontario, was homeward-bound from a meteorological flight, when the port engine caught fire. The flames spread to the fuselage, and the Mitchell exploded in mid-air; it crashed 3 miles south-east of Trenton. The aircraft's crew of four perished in the accident. A local witness, on the ground, stated that it appeared that the pilot deliberately avoided crashing into a populated area by veering the burning aircraft in another direction.
