Sharon Doty, 78, of Sioux Falls, SD passed away on Saturday, July 2, 2016 at Avera McKennan Hospital.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 am Friday, July 8, at The Cathedral of St. Joseph, 504 N. Summit Ave. with Interment at St. Michael Cemetery.
Family will be present to greet friends at Miller Funeral Home-Downtown, 507 S. Main Ave. from 5:00 – 7:00 pm Thursday July 7, with a Liturgical Wake and Rosary beginning at 7:00 pm.
Sharon Rose Girard, daughter of Isadore Sidney Girard and Lena Esther (Dandurand) Girard, was born April 5, 1938 in Jefferson, SD. She grew up in the Riverside area of Sioux City, IA. She attended Sacred Heart Catholic School and Heelan High School graduating in 1956. While in High School she was a life guard, taught swimming lessons and worked at the Dairy Queen.
Sharon was united in marriage with Leo Kenneth Doty on May 11, 1957 in Van Nuys, CA. While he was in the military they lived in Burbank, CA. They moved back to the area living in Hawarden, IA, Huron, SD, and moving to Sioux Falls in 1965. Sharon served as a foster mom for many years.
She was a member of The Cathedral of St. Joseph and Christ the King Parishes, 3rd Order of Carmelite, had been a longtime member and served as president of Right for Life, a member of Life Runners, and was involved in many prayer groups. Sharon was a devoted catholic and attended daily mass and daily rosary.
She cherished the time with her family. Sharon loved the outdoors with the family trips to the river where they would camp and fish. She enjoyed dancing, playing cards, and socializing.
Grateful for having shared her life are her five children, David Doty, Brandon, SD, Russell (Shawn) Doty, Canton, SD, Dale (Janet) Doty, Sioux Falls, SD, Richard (Lori) Doty, Tea, SD, Jolene (Rob) Dornbusch, Baltic, SD; 22 grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; five siblings, Mary (Paul) Mosher, Sioux City, IA, Donald (Nelia) Girard, Las Vegas, NV, Deb (Dan) Brett, Le Mars, IA, Gerald (Terra) Girard, Minneapolis, MN, Vicki (Kevin) Kollbaum, Hornick, IA; several nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
