Wife of Charles Matthew McElwee. Daughter of Jonathan and Anna Moore Peters.

Mrs. Emmaline McElwee, 76, a native of St. Joseph, died at 7:30 am Wednesday at her home in Danville where she had resided for the last 24 years. She had been seriously ill since last Friday. Funeral services will be at 1:30 pm Friday at the Second Church of Christ, Danville with Rev. O. E. Richardson officiating and at 3 pm Friday at the St. Joseph Church of Christ with Rev. P. W. Hayes officiating. The body was to be taken to Danville Thursday morning from the Jeannes funeral home here. Burial will be in Patterson cemetery, St. Joseph. The daughter of John and Anna Peters, she was born April 21, 1866, near St. Joseph and spent her entire life here until she moved to Danville. She married Charles McElwee on March 11, 1888 and he died in 1910. She was a charter member of the Pleasant Grove church, Tipton, but later transferred to the Second Church of Christ, Danville. Surviving are a son, Ray; and four daughters, Mrs. Ora Rouse, Lagoda, Ind.; Mrs. Effie Gebbink, Perryville, Ind.; Mrs. Icle Gebbink, St. Joseph, and Mrs. Thelma Leaser, Chicago; 22 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Also there are two sisters, Mrs. Lida Overman and Mrs. Lou Stayton, Urbana, and one brother, Fred Peters, Chicago. (News Gazette March 31, 1943)
