Russell E. Spangler
SPRING GROVE – Russell E. Spangler, husband of Ethel Bankert Spangler, died at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday at the family home, 196 N. Walnut St., Spring Grove. He was 57 and death followed an illness of six months.
A member of the United Church of Christ Congregation of Zion (Shaffer's) Union Church, near Hanover Junction, Mr. Spangler was an employee of the P. H. Glatfelter Co. for 36 years and was a member of the firm's Quarter Century Club.
He was a Navy veteran of World War II and was a member of Pvt. Allen J. Beck Jr. VFW Post 5265. He also held membership in Friendship Hose Co.
Mr. Spangler was a son of John B. Spangler, Seven Valleys RD 1, and the late Mrs. Lucy Miller Spangler.
Also surviving are three children, John H. Spangler, Albany, N.Y., and Sandra L. and Brenda J. Spangler, at home; and two sisters, Mrs. Carroll Kerchner Jr., Spring Grove RD 3, and Mrs. Gordon Myers, Seven Valleys RD 1.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at the Sauter Funeral Home, 175 N. Main St. The Rev. Glenn K. Flinchbaugh, Mr. Spangler's pastor, will officiate. Interment will be in Zion (Shaffer's) Church Cemetery.
