Merle F. Baker, 74 of 15310 Summit Farm Drive, Blue Ridge Summit, was pronounced dead at 10:10 P. M. Saturday, Jan 18, 2003 in his home.

Born Aug 6, 1928 in Highfield, he was the son of the late Harry D. and Elsie M. (Willard) Baker. He lived his early life in the Highfield area.

Mr. Baker attended school in Cascade and Smithsburg.

He and his wife, Carmen D. (Davis) Baker, were married July 17, 1948, in Hagerstown. They lived on Highfield Road, Cascade, prior to moving to the present residence in June 2002.

Prior to retiring in 1986, Mr. Baker was a machine operator at Waynesboro Knitting Mill for 28 years. He then worked at Thurmont Shoe Factory for a short time.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, cooking and baking.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Baker is survived by three daughters, Nancy K. Bigelow of Mercersburg. Lori A. Flohr of Cascade and Tammy J. Duncan of Chambersburg; one sister, Carrie E. Dayhoff of Hamilton, Ohio; five grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Steven W. Baker, in 1974; two sisters Edith Rock and Evelyn Woodring and two brothers, Kenneth Baker and Harold Baker.

Services will be held at 2 P. M. Wednesday in Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home, Wayneesboro, with the Rev. Eugene M. Cline officiating. Burial will be in Bethel Church Cemetery, Cascade.

There will be no public viewing. However, the family will receive friends one hour prior to services Wednesday in the fuenral home.
