Martha immigrated from Londonderry, Ireland to Philadelphia with her family, arriving on July 13, 1830. They were also on the ship Asia with her mother's brother and other extended family members. They immediately moved to Sugar Creek in Armstrong County, PA.

Martha moved back to Ireland before 1846. She married Mr. Alwin and they settled in Glinsk, County Galway. A letter she wrote on November 25, 1846 to her brother John in Sugar Creek is posted on Ancestry.com and talks about the potato blight. (It is part of the D.J. Miller Collection)
