Sarah immigrated with her husband William McCollum and 7 children from Londonderry, Ireland, arriving in Philadelphia on July 13, 1830 on the ship Asia. Her brother Hamilton McGarvey, sister Sarah and her husband Andrew Rodgers and their 8 children, along with Andrew's father Joseph were also on the ship. Sarah and William and their children moved to Sugar Creek, Armstrong County, Pennsylvania to farm. Daughter Nancy was born there in 1833 and Lydia was born in 1834.
