Mr. John Robert Guy, retired farmer of Melfa, died at his home on Friday, July 7, after a heart attack. He had been sick about one week.
Funeral services were held at the residence on Sunday, July 9, at 4:00 o'clock p.m., conducted by the Revs. T. Paige Williamson and T. J. C. heath. Interment was in Mount Holly cemetery at Onancock.
Active pallbearers were John T. Guy, Milton Beasley, Dewey Guy, Carroll Guy, Henry Guy and George Core.
Mr. Guy, who was 82 years old, was a member of Melfa Methodist Church and, although a cripple for a number of years, he attended his church regularly. For a number of years he had made his home with his daughter, Mrs. Roland Marsh. He was a kindly person, thoughtful of everyone, and a real fined to his grandchildren. He had a keen sense of humor, and his favorite sport was fishing which he had been able to enjoy in his latter years notwithstanding his physical disability. He will be missed by his family and residents of his community.
Surviving are his daughter, Mrs. Marsh; four sons, Robert Guy, James Guy, Selby Guy and Clarence Guy; four sisters, Mrs. Frank Beasley, Mrs. Lelia Core, Mrs. Olevia Watkinson and Mrs. Frank Swain, and two brothers, Upshur Guy and Charles Guy.
