Virgil Whitford Johnson, a retired rancher and Newport resident for three years, died Jan. 23 at Pacific Communities Hospital in Newport. He was 65. Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan 27, at the Bateman Funeral Home in Newport. Entombment will follow at the Chelan Abbey Mausoleum in Newport. Born in Mulvane, Kansas, Johnson was a member of the Christian church in Liberal, Kansas, and the Newport chapter of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Surviving are his wife, Sadie; a son, Van W. Johnson of Toledo; a brother, Elvin J. Johnson of Bellingham, Wash.; a sister, Mrs. Velna Ormiston of Hugoton, Kansas; and one grandchild, . . ..
