John Wesley Parish was born on January 2, 1842 in Bartholomew Co., Indiana to Albert and Elizabeth (Ashby) Parish. He married Matilda E. Luther on August 26, 1860 in Jeffersonville, Clark, Indiana. John and Matilda had eleven children in total but only 7 or 8 were living by 1900. Mr. Parish lived in Lawrence County since the early 1860's until his death in January of 1923. Mr. Parish was a farmer and his wife Matilda passed away in March of 1906. After Matilda passed away Mr. Parish went to live with his daughter Irene and her husband Frank Wedgewood, it was at their home that John Wesley Parish passed away at 6 p.m. on the 23rd of January in 1923. He was preceded in death by his wife, a sister and seven children. His funeral was held at 1 p.m. on January 25, 1923 under direction of the Haverly Mortuary of Mitchell. Burial was in the Bass Cemetery in Mitchell.
